Future Mobility in the West Midlands
The UK government nominated the West Midlands as a recognised centre of excellence in transport innovation – the Future Transport Zone.
In addition, the 5G West Midlands Testbed for Mobility, a new organisation set up to accelerate the benefits of 5G throughout the region as well as the Midlands Future Mobility testbed, an eco-system for businesses looking to accelerate Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) solutions have been set up.
ConVEx Mobility Data Exchange, a project involving central government, academia, private sector and local authority organisations to create a data exchange facility focused on mobility, the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre and the National Automotive Innovation Centre which creates and develops novel technologies to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and to reduce CO2 emissions, are also paving the way towards future mobility.
